Making Flowers with Soulfood Borders!!

I just love using diecut borders on my layouts! Every layout or card I make will always have a border - and the diecut borders in the Soulfood line by Melody Ross are just so perfect! I love each and every one of them!! I like to figure out different ways to use paper, and when I saw some of the borders, they reminded me of a technique that I saw of accordion folding strips of paper to make flowers! The borders are the perfect size and shape for this! Here's my layout with two "border" flowers.

And here's how I made them! I picked out the borders that were scalloped edged and folded them accordion style at each scallop

You will have to snip off the very last scallop so that you can attach the ends properly

Next adhere the ends with some glue so that the end scallops overlap each other

You'll end up with an accordion chain. Squeeze the chain together lightly, so that all the ends meet in the middle

This is the trickiest part - carefully flip the edges of the scallops outwards - while still holding the flower together to form your flower. Here's a tip - have a small circle with a pop dot waiting for you to pop your flower on and voila! There's your flower!

I added a glitter candy dot from the Funhouse line for the center!! The possibilities are endless! Have fun creating!!

A Party Invitation from Leftovers!!

Hi there!! Valerie here to show you the party invitation that I made using leftovers!

I had some leftover 3-d stickers that I thought would look great on a card, and the 916 four in 1 border punch was the perfect touch to really jazz up my card - it looks like confetti!! I used the punch across the bottom with no inserts, and for the top corners, I used the punch with the "C" inserts. I also used my handy dandy circle cutter to make the center circle piece - which is actually made from the packaging that the stickers were packaged in. I just love when I can repurpose items for scrappy usage!! I even used the leftover punched scrolled pieces at either side of the center to give it some extra party flair!! I hope I've inspired you to use your leftovers to make something special! Make sure to link it up to the post so that we can give it some love!! Have fun creating!

Bright Colors for Summer!

Hi there!! Valerie here, with a layout that I made using two of GCD Studios gorgeous paper lines!!

Photobucket

I just love the bright colors in the Homespun Chic and Soul Food lines - especially the papers that I used on this layout featuring some photos of my children taken one hot summer day! The colors remind me of a slice of watermelon with the gorgeous pinks and greens with a splash of gorgeous sunlight!! These lines are easily mixed and matched together and make layering lots of different patterned papers so fun and easy!
I used these papers from Homespun Chic:

Petit Blossoms Vintage Birdie Glitter
Pink Sparkle Glitter
And these paper from Soul Food:

Lovely Green Funky Soul

Have fun creating!!

So excited to part of this awesome team!

Hi there! I'm Valerie Bishop and I'm so excited to be a part of the GCD Studios design team! And to get to work with such gorgeous scrappy goodness - I'm in heaven!! :)

I got my box of goodies just in time to make a Mother's Day card for my mom!

I wanted to use some fun bright colors, and the the Soulfood and Funhouse lines fit the bill perfectly!! The colors go together so beautifully and the Funhouse line is just so FUN and playful!! I used some patterned paper from the Soulfood line and most of the embellishments are from Funhouse.

I took one a couple of the chipboard wheels from Funhouse and cut them in half to form a scalloped border and I used the rhinestones that I removed from the cut wheels as accents in the curlycues of my sticker border.

One of the fun techniques I used was debossing the chipboard title piece using the Chipart chipboard and the Bluebird uppercase letter stamps.

After debossing "MOM", I painted the entire piece yellow, then painted the word in pink. I used a dark pink fine tipped pen along the debossed edges to make the title pop! I layered the piece on top of a chipboard piece from the Soulfood collection to give my card some dimension! I added the flags as a fun and funky accent - perfect for my Mom!!

TFL and have fun creating!!
